Chaplain (Colonel) Jerry L. Jones New Director of Chaplains Ministries
Retired Army Chaplain (Colonel) Jerry L. Jones, of Lawton, OK, a Heartland ordained minister, is the new director/ecclesiastical endorser for IPHC. Colonel Jones assumed his duties October 1. He succeeds Retired Colonel Hugh Morgan, who served IPHC in this role for 15 years.
Colonel Jones is a graduate of Southwestern Christian University and is the first Southwestern chaplain to climb to the rank of colonel. He also earned a Master of Divinity degree at Midwestern Baptist Seminary in Kansas City.
The ecclesiastical endorser is the person designated by the denomination to recruit, interview and screen prospective IPHC chaplains and help prepare them for the chaplaincy. He writes the letters of endorsement to the Chief of Chaplains in Washington, DC. As the director of Chaplains Ministries, he also serves as a pastor to our denominational chaplains.
Chaplain Jones is a native of Richmond, Virginia. He and his wife Cynthia, from Tuttle, Oklahoma, have two married children, Jessica and Jay, and one grandchild. Cynthia is also a graduate of SCU.
Colonel Jones has served overseas in Germany and Korea, and did two tours of duty in Iraq. His awards include the Army Achievement Medal (1st Oak Leaf), the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (8th Oak Leaf), the Bronze Star Medal, and the Legion of Merit.
Colonel Jones most recent assignment was as the command chaplain at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He has given 28 1/2 years in active service to his country. He and Cynthia make their home in Lawton.
In addition to his responsibilities as IPHC ecclesiastical endorser, He will be available to preach in our churches when called upon. He will also serve us well when invited for special days, such as Veterans Day, and 4th of July, among many others.
Lu and I have known Jerry and Cynthia for over 40 years, and highly commend his ministry to you. I attended his retirement ceremony September 18, and Lu and I, along with John and Anne Youell, visited Jerry and Cynthia in Germany on his last tour of duty there.
